BELGIOIOSO IS BACK!

Weekly Market Report for March 4

Welcome to the Bondi weekly Market Report, your go-to for all the highs & lows of the week! Before we dive in, let’s state the obvious - the day started off with some less than ideal news with the U.S & Canada tariffs going into effect (if you missed our email update, check it out here).

So…how we doing? Deep breaths, we’re in this with you. We understand that these changes may raise questions, and we are committed to keeping you informed as the situation evolves.

That being said, here's a preview of what we've got lined up for the week:

📈 What’s Up?: Only one notable price increases this week on limes! However, price increases are expected in the coming weeks on items affected by tariffs that cannot be sourced outside of the USA, especially as Mexican imports decline ahead of the local season.

📉 What’s Down?: We’re seeing price drops this week on Cara Cara and blood oranges, okra, acorn squash, yellow zucchini, celery stalks, mini cucumbers, mini sweet peppers, and green beans.

🚨Tariffs Update: Trudeau has officially announced counter-tariffs on U.S. imports. More details below.

🍹 Cranberry Kombucha: Greenhouse is facing production issues - we’ll keep you updated when it is available again to order.

🧀 Local Farm Highlight: Gunn’s Hill Artisan Cheese!

🥛 Pantry Pick of the Week: BelGioioso Burrata! After a gap in availability due to Canada’s imported cheese quotas, Belgioioso burrata is back in stock!

Let’s dive in…

Market Recap: What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • LIMES - Limited fruit supply due to recent rainfall in key growing regions—expect elevated prices to continue in the coming weeks.

  • TARIFFS - With the tariff announcement, you can anticipate price increases in the weeks ahead on affected items that cannot be sourced outside of the USA.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • CARA CARA & BLOOD ORANGES - Improved availability means better pricing on these vibrant citrus favourites.

  • OKRA - Honduras is delivering better quality and supply, helping to stabilize the market.

  • ACORN SQUASH - Mexico’s squash crops are ramping up production, meaning better availability and pricing.

  • YELLOW ZUCCHINI - Mexico's zucchini harvest is in full swing, leading to increased supply and more competitive pricing.

  • CELERY STALKS - More supply from southern growing regions is bringing relief to pricing.

  • MINI CUCUMBERS - Ontario greenhouses are in full swing, bringing abundant supply and lower prices.

  • MINI PEPPERS - Specialty pepper crops in Mexico are thriving, increasing yields and stabilizing the market.

  • GREEN BEANS - Pricing and availability are improving across the U.S. and Mexico, making it a great time to stock up.

🚨Tariffs Update - 11am🚨

Canada Officially Retaliates With 25% Tariffs on Select U.S. Imported Goods

Trudeau announced that Canada is imposing counter tariffs on several U.S.-imported items, including citrus fruits, berries, tomatoes, nuts, and dried fruits, effective immediately. An expanded list is anticipated within 21 days, potentially affecting more goods.

With 40% of our product catalogue sourced from the U.S., you can anticipate price increases on affected items that cannot be sourced elsewhere, especially as Mexican imports decline before the local season begins. Our procurement team is actively securing alternative sources to minimize impact where possible.

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

  • Caulilini (7341) - Ongoing field-level quality challenges are causing inconsistent supply, making product availability unpredictable.

  • Edible Orchids (5349) - A growth delay at Fresh Origins has temporarily dropped our supply for our edible orchids. We have some available in stock now!

  • Ashley Taleggio Locale (8697) - Manufacturer delay has resulted in a gap in availability again last week. We’re expecting some to arrive today.

  • Pecorino Romano (8108) - Due to a port delay, we experienced some shortages for our Pecorino Romano last week. We are back in stock!

  • Cranberry Kombucha (4747) - Due to a production delay at Greenhouse, our supply of Cranberry Kombucha is currently unavailable. No confirmed ETA at this time, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as more details become available.

  • Chestnut Mushrooms (10273) - Heartee is still facing a growth delay in their Chestnut Mushrooms, leading to limited availability and reduced supply.

  • Eggplant (2478) - After some shortages last week due to increased demand, our eggplant is back in stock with no supply concerns.
