YOU HAD ME AT HEIRLOOM

Weekly Market Report for July 29

Welcome to the Bondi Weekly Market Report — the latest from the fields, the coolers, and the price board: a few heat-driven price hikes, some solid relief from local arrivals, and a handful of seasonal stars finally showing up (or wrapping up).

Let’s get into it.

📈 What’s Up? Heat stress, slow growth, and delayed imports are pushing prices up on asparagus, cilantro, heirloom carrots, and grapes — full breakdown below.

📉 What’s Down? Local season ramp-ups and softer demand are driving price relief across lettuce, peppers, grapes, and more — full breakdown below.

🍑 New Local Arrivals: Ontario field heirlooms, peaches, fresh Romano beans and orange and purple cauliflower are officially in season!

☀️ On the Horizon: Shepherd peppers are taking their sweet time thanks to the heat — but they’ll be here in a couple of weeks. Prune plums are on the horizon too!

❌ Delisted/Leaving Soon: Ontario red raspberries are winding down for the season and golden raspberries are finished.

🍅 Local Producer Spotlight: Top Tomato Farm!

🟥 Red Flags: Heads up — Welsh Bros corn is sold out until Thursday (available for Friday deliveries), with a few other items still feeling the ripple effects of heat, delays, and strong demand. Full details below.

🥜 Pantry Pick of the Week: Bondi’s dried fruit and nut offering! Sourced through Nutworks — a Canadian, family-owned company that shares our commitment to quality.

🚨 Upcoming Holiday Closure: Reminder that we will be closed this upcoming Monday, August 4th for the Civic Holiday. Regular business and deliveries will resume Tuesday, August 5th. Please adjust your orders accordingly. Thank you!

Market Recap: What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • ASPARAGUS (2093) - Slow crop growth is driving prices up on asparagus.

  • CILANTRO (2352) - Short-term supply challenges for cilantro due to recent heat waves. High-quality product is especially limited.

  • CARROT HEIRLOOM TOP WITH PEEL (3768) - Vacuum-sealed carrots are up in price — driven by rising demand, low supply, and shipment delays out of Guatemala.

  • DILL WEED (2418) - Ongoing heat waves have tightened up supply across the board.

  • RED SEEDLESS GRAPES (2553) - Mexican grape supply is tightening, especially on premium quality, while California’s season is just starting to ramp up — pushing costs higher across the board.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • ICEBURG LETTUCE (2647 & 2655) - Supply continues to outpace demand, with quality varying across key growing regions.

  • GREEN PEPPERS (2988) - Local green peppers are trickling in slowly due to recent heat waves, but as volume ramps up, we expect prices to gradually ease down.

  • BROCCOLI CROWNS (2219) - Broccoli crowns are in good supply, but softer demand is pushing prices down.

  • GAILAN (2515) - We’re kicking off the season with local gailan, which is helping bring prices down.

  • HOT BANANA PEPPERS (2976) - The local season is officially underway, bringing a welcome dip in hot banana pepper pricing.

  • ROMAINE (2687, 2689 & 2696) - Romaine pricing remains varied as the market adjusts from recent highs.

  • GREEN & RED LEAF LETTUCE (2661 & 2684) - Green leaf lettuce is seeing light demand, with the market trending slightly downward.

  • SNOW PEAS (2970) - More competitive pricing out of Mexico and Peru is putting downward pressure on Chinese snow peas.

  • GRAPE TOMAOTES (3410) - Local field tomatoes are trickling in slowly due to ongoing heat waves, but as supply gradually builds, prices are expected to continue easing.

  • JALAPENO PEPPERS (2994) - Local jalapeños are starting to trickle in despite the heat, and as supply builds, prices are expected to continue their slow decline.

  • ROMANESCO (3232) - Local Romanesco is set to start shortly, which should bring some more relief on pricing.

  • GREEN SEEDLESS GRAPES (2548) - Ample supply out of Mexico and California is driving prices down on green seedless grapes.

🌟Local Producer Spotlight🌟

Top Tomato Farm

Top Tomato’s story isn’t so different from ours. Both family-run, both Italian, both built from humble beginnings and a deep connection to fresh food. Top Tomato began in 1960, when Vito De Filippis started farming 40 acres in Uxbridge. Over time — and after nearly a decade of trial and error growing artichokes in Ontario — the farm expanded into a larger operation, now run by his son Dominic and grandsons Antony and Vito.

Like Bondi, it’s a business passed down through generations, focused on quality, consistency, and relationships. Today, they grow everything from broccoli and cauliflower to beans, peas, and artichokes, supported by strong traceability programs and a team that’s been with them for decades.

Available Now From Top Tomato Farm:

Baby Artichokes | Codes 6532 & 6619

Zucchini Flowers | Code 6480

Broccolette | Code 5310

Barese Cucumbers | Code 2387

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

Welsh Bros Corn

  • Welsh Bros corn will be temporarily unavailable until our next order arrives this Thursday. It will be available to order for Friday deliveries.

Last Week’s Shortages:

  • Figs | Code 2503 — A supply gap is expected through mid-August, but we’ve lined up sufficient inventory to meet demand and avoid disruptions.

  • Horseradish | Code 2576 — After a short gap in availability, horseradish supply has stabilized and is back on track.

  • King Oyster Mushrooms | Code 2776 — High demand and slower growth from last week’s heat caused a brief shortage — now back in stock.

  • Valencia Orange | Code 2919 — Valencia orange supply is short due to late offshore shipments. We'll transition to California fruit to ensure continued coverage.

  • Peaches | Code 2951 — A slight delay in ripening on early peach varieties is tightening supply, though availability is expected to stabilize by mid-week.

  • Strawberries | Code 3345 & 3346 — This week’s strawberry availability was limited due to delays at the border and subpar quality from the supplier impacted supply.

  • Watercress | Code 3462 — Watercress availability was impacted by severe flooding in the southern states, but supply will return to normal levels this week.

  • Pompom Mushrooms | Code 5158 — Tight supply on pompom mushrooms continues, driven by strong demand and heat-related reductions in harvest yields.

  • Cilantro Sprouts (Cut) | Code 7756 — High demand continues to outpace supply on cilantro sprouts, resulting in some shorts.
