Market Recap: What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • BOSC PEARS -Bosc pear supply is currently tight, which has led to a price increase. However, new arrivals from South Africa are expected by the end of the week, which should help boost supply and stabilize pricing.

  • TOMATOES (4676) - Mexican round tomatoes are virtually unavailable, driving their prices significantly above average. This scarcity is also pushing up prices for USA rounds, with tariffs factored into the cost.

  • RED & GREEN SEEDLESS GRAPES - Following a period of abundant supply, the market is strengthening, with availability and pricing now back to seasonal levels.

  • AVOCADOS - Demand remains high, a strong market is keeping avocado prices up.

  • TOMATO GRAPE MEDLEY - Ontario greenhouses are now getting into first picks, so prices are expected to remain elevated until production and yields improve.

  • SAVOY CABBAGE - Canadian product is finished for the season so we’ve transitioned to American product, resulting in a price increase.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • THAI GREEN CHILI - Improved supply from the Dominican Republic has led to a decline in Thai green chili pepper prices, easing market conditions.

  • ZUCCHINI YELLOW - Improved yields in large sizes are now available, helping to drive prices down.

  • ORANGE PEPPER - Mexico greenhouses are ramping up their harvest, which should help improve overall supply.

  • CAULIFLOWER - Our USA product is now harvesting from a new field where yields have improved, driving prices down.

  • NAPA CABABGE - Availability from Florida is improving, though prices are likely to stay elevated for a few weeks until supply and quality fully stabilize.

  • TARO ROOT - Improved supply from Mexico has led to a decrease in taro root prices, easing market pressure and signaling a gradual return to more stable pricing.

🌟 New & Newsworthy🌟

Spring has kicked off and we’re excited to see some peak season Spring items come into season:

White AAA Asparagus (4699) * arriving Wednesday/Thursday this week - AKA the big guy! White asparagus has a delicate, subtle, nutty and slightly sweet flavour that sets it apart from its green counterpart. Fantastic in both raw and cooked preparations.

Purple Artichokes (7537) * arriving Wednesday/Thursday this week - Purple artichokes are not just beautiful—they’re also prized for their distinct flavour. They tend to be slightly sweeter than green artichokes, with a mild nuttiness (think hazelnut or almond).

Keep an eye out—this is just the beginning! More seasonal stars are on the way as the weather continues to warm up.

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

  • Agretti (5962) – Quality from this week’s Italy load was impacted by rainy weather. Next shipment is expected the week of April 7.

  • Arugula Roots Revival (5172) – A spike in local demand has limited availability.

  • Fable Pulled Mushrooms (10631) – Shipment was delayed, but fresh stock is arriving this week and we're ready to move forward.

  • Bosc Pears (3152) – High demand and slower crop growth have tightened supply. We expect conditions to improve over the next few weeks.

  • Avocados - We experienced a quality issue with a small portion of last week’s avocados pulled from a specific lot. We believe the quality issue was caused by a temperature fluctuation—likely the product on this skid was exposed to cold temperatures in transit, and the sudden shift to the ripening room caused a shock, leading to the discoloration. The issue has been addressed, and all current and upcoming stock meets our usual high standards. Thanks for your understanding!

  • Red Watercress (4479) – B&W’s current production isn’t meeting our demand, but warmer weather should bring improvement.

  • Caulilini (7341) – Ongoing shortages due to limited supply and high demand.

  • Roma Tomatoes (3431) – A one-day blip in availability—back on track now!

  • Guanciale (6442) – Shipment from Italy is still delayed. We anticipate a couple more weeks before it’s available. Updates to follow.

  • Cranberry Kombucha (4747) – Back in stock!

🫙 Pantry Pick of The Week 🫙

Kozlik’s Mustard * Local

"A good mustard should have heat. It should quickly rise up through the nose, bring a tear to the eye and then as rapidly, dissipate, opening all the senses to the full flavours on the plate." -Mephasnifanis

Made with 100% Canadian mustard seeds, Kozlik’s Mustards are the secret weapon chefs use to add just the right zesty punch to sandwiches, dressings, sauces, marinades, and glazes.

Try them in your next order and see how a little heat can make all the difference!

Market Mustard (6192)

Kozlik's Market Mustard offers a balanced flavor profile with tangy acidity, subtle sweetness, and a moderate kick.

A great all-purpose mustard. This smooth yellow mustard pairs well with deli meats, hot dogs and hamburgers, and more.

Daily Dijon Mustard (6194)

This mustard is characterized by its creamy texture, mild flavour and smooth finish.

Ideal for dressings, marinades and dips or for adding subtle tang to marinades and vinaigrettes without overpowering other flavours.

Triple Crunch Mustard (7621)

Taste and texture come together in this blend of three different types of whole mustard seed, Canadian whisky and Ontario honey.

Great as a rub on pork roasts, served with foie gras as well as raw oysters.
