THINGS WE LOVE

Weekly Market Report for October 1st

Welcome to the Bondi Weekly Market report, your go-to for all the highs & lows of the week. This week, our warehouse is under construction to expand our split division (YAY!). As a result, things are a bit shaken up. So, instead of our usual market updates, we thought we'd share what we're absolutely LOVING this week. For example, Gus Bondi loves a glass of red after a long day in the cooler, Ezio loves hot takes, Susan loves her cat, and Paul C. loves when I don’t call him asking for delivery favors.

Here’s a sneak peek at where we’re spreading love this week:

❤️ With summer items leaving and fall items starting we’re spreading some extra local love this week!

🍌 Notice for potential shortages in the next 2-3 weeks

Market Recap : What’s up, what’s down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • BROCCOLINI (code 2216) - We continue to experience a lack of availability due to weather conditions in California. Supply will be inconsistent for the next couple of weeks. Please anticipate increased pricing.

  • RADISH VALENTINE (code 3218) - There is a slight gap in production caused by storms in the growing region.

  • GRANOLA CHUNKY SUPREME (code 8516) - Vendor price increase went into effect.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • LIME (code 2720) - The lime market is quickly returning to regular supply levels, with increased availability from new Mexican crops. Prices are expected to continue decreasing next week.

  • DAIKON (code 2410) - Local crops in both QC and ONT are yielding much more due to cool nights, resulting in an increased supply.

  • ZUCCHINI YELLOW (code 3551) - Local crops in both QC and ONT are yielding much more due to cool nights, resulting in an increased supply.

Local Produce Spotlight!

💛 Local Love

“St. Brigid's butter is an essential staple in my kitchen, helping to cultivate complex, deep flavors in pastas, risottos, and sauces. With its rich color and unparalleled taste, St. Brigid's butter truly stands unmatched!”

Mike Angeloni - Exec Chef at Amano Trattoria, Bar Notte & The Berczy Tavern

“I look forward to Koginut Squash every year. Bosco Farms started growing it for us a few years ago; it's a Row 7 seed variety, a cross between Butternut and Kabocha Squash. Its balanced flavor—nutty and not too sweet—makes it great for roasting with the skin on and serving room temp. Perfect in a Burrata dish or a hearty fall salad (think apple, farro, kale, shredded brussels).”

Greg Cipryk - Bondi Account Executive & Local Buyer

Saying Goodbye to these local gems 👋

  • CORN ONTARIO

  • CORN ONTARIO "WELSH BROS"

  • STRAWBERRY ONTARIO FIELD - Tigchelaar

  • TOMATO FIELD HEIRLOOM "BOSCO"

  • LETTUCE HEIRLOOM MIX ORGANIC - Pirate Produce

  • CAULIFLOWER PURPLE

💙 Fan Favourite:

Giving a shoutout to a beloved favorite from Heartee: Blue Oyster Mushrooms! These mushrooms are hyper-local, with most GTA customers located within 10 km of the farms. They do not use pesticides, preservatives, or animal waste, so the mushrooms are ready to cook right from the box. If they sit for longer than 7 days and get spore-covered, simply wipe them down with a damp paper towel or cloth!

The colour remains most vibrant when baked, smoked, candied, pickled, or grilled rather than fried or sautéed!

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

  • Broccoli & Rapini - We have been dealing with issues over the past three weeks, but we are now back on track!

  • White and Cremini Mushrooms - Due to the weather conditions experienced over the last 3 weeks, we have observed a significant reduction in the shelf life of all mushroom varieties.

Special notice 🍌 🥭 🍍

  • We are closely monitoring the potential port strike on the East Coast of the United States, which could significantly affect our supply chain for tropical products, particularly bananas, mangos, and pineapples. If the strike occurs, we expect relatively immediate disruptions in the availability of these commodities, and unfortunately, at this time, there are no viable mitigation options. We will keep you informed as developments unfold, but please be aware that this situation may impact product availability and delivery timelines.

Weekly Pantry Pick!

“The Marinated Semi Dry Cherry Tomatoes from Alfi is my go to right now for Pantry Items. I love cooking with them at home. The product flavor is exceptional. Best product on the market in my opinion and super versatile. Could be used for antipasto, pasta, pizza, salads, focaccia, the possibilities are endless!”
