📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • MANGOES - bit scarce at the moment in all sizes as we switch over to South American crops. We’ll have limited quantities available for the weekend.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • POTATOES- The price on some potato varieties are slightly decreasing this week due to the arrival of the new crop, resulting in increased availability. (Red Creamer "C", White Creamer "C", White Premium, Yukon Creamer "C", Yukon Gold Premium)

  • Fresh Origins Catalogue - We're excited to share that we're making some improvements to our shipping process to help prevent shortages. As a result, our freight charges have been adjusted, leading to a small price drop that takes effect immediately.

🥔 Dig a little deeper! 🥔

Last week, our sales team got a firsthand look at the journey of everyone’s favorite comfort food — the potato — during a tour of Earth Fresh. From the fields to the factory floor, we gained an insider’s view of how they ensure each potato meets the highest standards of quality. Witnessing the sorting, cleaning, and packaging processes up close gave us a deeper appreciation for what sets Earth Fresh’s potatoes apart.

  • Based out of Burlington, ON

  • Established in 1963

  • They zero in on particular types instead of general categories to provide chefs with a more specialized selection. For instance, while there are 250 different varieties of yellow flesh potatoes, EF offers just one: Pure Gold.

  • Choose your variety based on your cooking style. Low-sugar potatoes with medium starch are best for frying.

  • They process 60 different varieties of potatoes each day and 600,000 lbs!

  • The majority of their Canadian potatoes come from partnering farms in PEI.

  • We partnered with them to come up with a chef quality potato under our Red Truck brand (Chef White, Burbank & Yukon). Red Truck potatoes only use varities from approved growers ensuring quality & consistancy.

  • Storage is important! Do no Refridgerate, avoid high temperatures & store in a dark place. All of this can help with discolouring and shelf life.

  • Family owned & operated

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

  • Rapini - We will be experiencing a gap in product availability. The issues noted below with broccoli are causing a trickle-down effect and also impacting rapini again this week.

  • Broccoli / Broccoli - We are currently facing shortages and quality issues with products from Salinas, California, and Central Mexico due to increased insect activity and damage from Diamondback moth larvae, worsened by extended high temperatures. While this type of activity is typical for late summer and early fall, the conditions have been harder to control this season. Growers are working hard to manage the situation, and we are closely monitoring quality on our end. This is expected to continue until the end of this week.

  • Peeled Garlic -Most major suppliers have now received their containers that were delayed due to the CN Rail strike, resulting in a price drop.

  • Avocados - The avocados are still ripening at different times, and we’re noticing some that are still not quite ready. Unfortunately, Mission doesn’t have an explanation for this yet but we are keeping a close eye on them

  • Cremini Mushrooms - We're still running short on #2 Product. It's growing at a slower pace and trying to catch up with the ongoing demand from the past few weeks. The availability of #1 Product has also been hit due to low yield and high demand, leading to some short shipments and the need to substitute with White #1 Product. But don't worry, we expect things to improve this week!

All Wrapped Up - Items on Hold or Finished for the Season:

  • Pirate Produce - Heirloom tomatoes

  • Local Rainbow Swiss chard

  • Champagne Grapes - finishing this week

  • Muscadine Grapes

Product Changes this week:

  • Potatoes - We have an update on a few potato skus!

    • Reds – Minnesota is wrapping up their A Size product this week, so we’ll be moving seamlessly into the new crop from Manitoba.

    • Baker Counts – PEI supply is getting more plentiful. In just a few more weeks, we’ll have Canadian products available for all Count sizes.

    • Red Truck Label – We’ve got a good supply of Burbanks, Whites, and Yukons from our local Ontario growers.

  • Baby Leeks - Back in stock after being gone for almost a month!
