Market Recap : What’s up, what’s down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • WATERMELON (code 3455) - Price increase due to the transition to the Mexican crop.

  • JALAPENO PEPPERS (code 2994)-Local season is wrapping up and transitioning to the Mexico crop.

  • MINI SWEET PEPPERS (code 4615)-Local field pepper season is wrapping up and transitioning to the greenhouse crop.

  • TOMATILLO (code 3436)- The quality of produce from Mexico's growing regions hasn't been the best lately, leading to a rise in prices.

  • STRAWBERRIES - Transitioned to Oxnard, which will keep pricing elevated as supply comes online.

  • BLACKBERRIES - Due to an ongoing transition, availability is currently limited. However, fruit from Central Mexico is expected to arrive later this week, offering better quality.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • LIME (code 2720) - The lime market is quickly returning to regular supply levels, with increased availability from new Mexican crops. Prices are expected to continue decreasing next week.

  • BLUEBERRIES - Great news! After a few weeks of rising prices, we're finally seeing some relief as prices start to come down.

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

  • Peeled Garlic - There were shortages last week because the last inbound shipment was rejected due to poor quality, which may have also caused a market shortage. We should be in a good position moving forward.

  • Broccolini & Caulilini- The ongoing heat in California is affecting how much broccolini is available straight from the fields. You might notice occasional shortages and a bump in prices.

Special Notices:

  • Belgioioso Burrata: They have official hit their quoata this year for importing burrata cheese so we will have NO STOCK until the new year. But don't worry! We're switching to CODE 06863 – Burratini 125 g (Pail), a fantastic local product from Quality Cheese. The size is nearly the same at 125 grams per ball.

  • Port Strike Update: We’re noticing the effects of the port strike on the East Coast of the United States, particularly on tropical products like bananas, mangos, and pineapples. We’re already having a very hard time sourcing mangos and foresee issues this week in the availability of these commodities plus sudden price increases. Unfortunately, at this time, there are no viable mitigation options. We will keep you informed as developments unfold, but please be aware that this situation may impact product availability and delivery timelines.

Picking The Right Potato For The Job!

If you're aiming to win an award for the best mash this fall season, opt for the Red Truck Yukons! Here’s why yellow potatoes will get you to gold.

  • Creamy Texture: Yellow potatoes have a naturally smooth, creamy texture, ideal for rich, velvety mashed potatoes without becoming gummy or too starchy.

  • Buttery Flavor: Yellow potatoes have a buttery flavor that enhances mashed potatoes, allowing for less butter or seasoning while maintaining a rich taste.

  • Less Absorbent: They absorb less liquid than starchier potatoes, which helps them maintain a creamy texture without becoming overly dense or heavy.

  • Smooth Consistency: They produce a smoother mash compared to chunkier or more crumbly varieties, giving you that perfect, silky mouthfeel.

📢Important Reminder: We will be CLOSED & NOT making deliveries on Monday, October 14th. Enjoy your holiday weekend, everyone!📢
