Market Recap : What’s up, what’s down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • GRAPE TOMATOES - The volume remains constrained as a result of the persistent damage caused by the recent hurricane in Florida, which is consequently leading to increased costs for greenhouse crops produced in Mexico.

  • ZUCCHINI GREEN & YELLOW - The current cultivation region in Mexico is releasing its produce to facilitate the transition to the next phase

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • GREEN & RED PEPPERS - Georgia's season has wrapped up, and the move to Florida is taking its time. As a result, Mexican greens have been quite pricey, but thankfully, the costs are starting to come down a bit.

  • HOT BANANA PEPPERS - Florida product start bringing price down!

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

  • Watermelon troubles continue - Watermelon shortages and quality issues in Ontario are due to poor yields in Central America caused by bad weather, combined with delays in Mexican imports. Strong seasonal demand and tight supply have driven prices higher. Relief is expected soon as shipments from Mexico ramp up, but prices will remain elevated due to ongoing constraints

  • Peeled carrots: We've had a bit of a rush on orders in the last 2 weeks, which has led to some shortages. If you have these items on menus for events, please give our team a heads-up or place orders early so we can plan accordingly, especially as the holidays approach.

  • Mushroom Supply Update: While Ontario and Quebec growers are making progress recovering from the U.S. Thanksgiving rush, we’re still seeing some shortages, particularly with #2 mushrooms. To ensure orders are fulfilled, we’re currently subbing in #1 mushrooms where needed. We appreciate your understanding as we work through these temporary challenges!
