Market Recap: What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • SHANGHAI BOK CHOY - Price increase due to limited supply and quality issues during the transition from U.S. and Mexico to local product.

  • PEPPERONI ROSA GRANDE (7612) - Price increase due to higher raw material costs and increased pricing on new U.S. lots.

  • BRUSSELS SPROUTS - Good quality and sizing are in short supply, driving prices up significantly for top-grade product.

  • PINK LADY APPLES - Price increase as local Pink Lady season ends and supply shifts back to Washington.

  • LARGE ROMA TOMATOES (3431) - Price increase driven by field transitions in Mexico and tightening supply from both Mexico and Florida.

  • GREEN SEEDLESS GRAPES - Green seedless grape supply is stabilizing, bringing prices back to more typical seasonal levels.

  • GRAPEFRUIT - Price increase due to delayed container arrivals and tightening market conditions.

  • VALENTINE RADISH - Poor weather in the growing region is impacting quality and limiting supply.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • GREEN BEAN - East Coast green beans out of Georgia are now readily available, with prices beginning to ease.

  • ASPARAGUS (2093) - Local asparagus season has started, bringing improved supply and lower prices.

  • BLACKBERRIES - New growing region is boosting yields, though overall quality remains average.

  • RED SWISS CHARD - Improved availability due to increased crop supply is lowering market prices.

  • BLUEBERRIES - Strong availability from Mexico and Georgia is driving prices down.

  • ROMANESCO - Improved supply from U.S. farms is boosting availability.

  • FLAT RUNNER BEANS - Improved availability and lower freight costs from Europe are easing the market.

  • DRAGON FRUIT - Improved availability from Vietnam, with supply gradually returning to normal levels.

  • ROMAINE LETTUCE (2696) & ROMAINE HEARTS (2689) - Strong grower production is keeping supply high and prices lower than typical for this time of year.

  • LIMES - Volume is increasing for smaller limes, but quality concerns on larger fruit remain. Prices are expected to ease slightly in the coming weeks.

  • RASPBERRIES - Yields are up thanks to a new growing region, with excellent quality coming through!

🪴Produce Pick of the Week🪴

Welsh Bros Premium Local Asparagus (Code 8220)

It’s a short-season chef fave, local premium asparagus from Welsh Bros is finally here. Hand-picked daily and hydrocooled for max freshness, these sweet, tender spears are field-fresh and ready to show off. Get it on your menus while it lasts!

We dropped by Welsh Bros on Day 1 of harvest and got the inside scoop from Charles on what makes their asparagus truly next level.

Why Welsh Bros Asparagus Hits Different:

  • Picked Fresh Every Morning: They walk their fields daily (sometimes twice) to make sure they grab spears at the perfect height—9 inches—so you get tight tips, great texture, and killer flavour.

  • Chilled Fast, Stays Fresh: Spears get hydrocooled right after picking (basically an icy shower) to lock in that snap and extend shelf life.

  • Local & Lush: Harvested just a day before it lands in our warehouse, and the next day it hits your kitchens. Fresher, tastier, and less travel = lower impact.

  • Perfect Growing Conditions: Sandy soil and cool Norfolk nights = sweet, tender stalks every time.

  • Farmed by Pros: The Welsh family’s been doing this since the 1850s. Safe to say they know a thing or two about growing damn good asparagus.
