Market Recap : What’s up, what’s down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • ROUND ROLLED TOMATOES - Due to severe crop damage in Florida and seasonal disruptions, USA Round Tomato prices are set to spike starting TODAY, with a 50% increase expected and another 20-30% likely in the coming weeks. Hurricanes Helene and Milton have impacted Florida tomato supplies, creating limited availability, higher demand in California, reduced quality, and record-high prices over the next 6-8 weeks. Stability is anticipated by mid-December to early January. HERE’S THE SUB YOU NEED!

  • IN TRANSITION - Please be aware that the following items will experience increased pricing over the next 2 weeks due to market transitions:

    • Iceberg Lettuce

    • Curly Parsley & Italian Parsley

    • Strawberries

    • Celery

    • Green Leaf Lettuce

    • Romaine Lettuce

    • Cauliflower

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • PEPPERS (red, yellow, orange)– We're currently bringing in 5KG of top-quality greenhouse peppers from Spain to help keep costs low due to the shortage from Mexico. The quality is absolutely fantastic!

  • EGGPLANT – Supplies from both the USA and Mexico have really increased, bringing a wide range of products in various sizes and types. This boost in availability has led to a significant drop in prices. We can look forward to even lower prices next week!

  • ZUCCHINI - Zucchini crops are flourishing in Mexico right now, bringing prices down.

  • TOMATO GRAPE MEDLEY - The Medley variety of grape tomatoes is currently being harvested from greenhouses in Mexico.

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

  • Edible Flowers - Last week, we ran into some shortages because our Fresh Origins shipment got held up at customs. We apologize to anyone who was affected by this. Just a heads-up: these kinds of issues can happen more often during the holiday season. We really appreciate your patience and want you to know we're doing everything possible to ensure your orders arrive promptly and in great condition.

  • Tomato Prices Rise - Here’s the Recommended Substitute - Mexican Roma tomatoes are looking more stable than Round tomatoes, and greenhouse-grown tomatoes from Mexico, like TOV (Cluster) and Beefsteak varieties, offer good alternatives at a lower price per pound for this month. For cost relief during the holiday season, we suggest considering the following options:

    • TOMATO CLUSTER - 5KG (Product Code #03404)

    • TOMATO ROMA - 25LB (Product Code #03431)

    • TOMATO HOT HOUSE 28/32 - 15 LB (Product Code #07381)

  • IN TRANSITION - Please be aware that the following items will experience increased pricing over the next 2 weeks due to market transitions:

    • Iceberg Lettuce

    • Curly Parsley & Italian Parsley

    • Strawberries

    • Celery

    • Green Leaf Lettuce

    • Romaine Lettuce

    • Cauliflower

Product Notices:

  • Kale is Back in Action! - Good news, kale lovers! The baby kale shortage is behind us as operations in Yuma are now in full swing. Supply gaps are smoothing out, and your favorite leafy green is ready to shine again. If you've been substituting with full-size kale or baby arugula, it's time to welcome baby kale back to the menu!

  • Seasonal Insect Presence in Broccoli, Cabbage & Cauliflower - Unusually warm late-summer temperatures have led to increased insect activity, especially cabbageworms and Diamondback moths, in crops from the Salinas Valley. While the presence of insects during this seasonal transition is normal, it's more prevalent this year due to the higher temperatures. With cooler weather on the way and harvests moving to Yuma, we expect this to clear up by the end of the month. We're inspecting all products carefully, but if you spot anything, our customer service team is here to help. Thank you for understanding as we move through this short seasonal phase!
