LOCAL SINGLES šŸ’˜

Weekly Market Report for February 4th

While the week started with a not-so-tariff-ic twist thanks to the latest trade drama south of the border, thereā€™s good newsā€”U.S. tariffs have been paused for 30 days (and hopefully for good).

Now that thatā€™s off our plate, letā€™s focus on something much sweeterā€”Valentineā€™s Day! ā¤ļø

This weekā€™s Market Report brings a mix of price shifts. Plus, weā€™ve got all the romantic essentials to help you craft the perfect Valentineā€™s menu.

Hereā€™s a sneak peek at whatā€™s in store this week:

šŸ’˜ Local Singles: Curate the perfect Valentineā€™s menu with our split-pack romantic essentials! Think strawberries, truffle products, artisanal cheeses, edible flowers & more, all available in splits.

šŸ Bartlett Pears: Supply remains tight, but relief is coming! Weā€™re transitioning to Chilean Bartletts next week, which will bring prices down.

šŸ„š Egg Shortage Update: Conestoga eggs are still in short supply due to ongoing supply challenges. Regular white eggs are being substituted.

šŸ’š Limes: Prices are dipping slightly with better supply this week, but donā€™t get too comfortableā€”cold temps could tighten supply and drive costs back up.

šŸŒ¶ļø Prime Peppers: Improved supply from Mexico is pushing prices down on habaneros, shishitos, and sweet mini peppers.

šŸ‡ Grape Update: Strong availability of red and green seedless grapes is keeping market prices on the decline.

Market Recap: What's Up, What's Down

šŸ“ˆPrice IncreasesšŸ“ˆ

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • ROYAL GALA APPLES - Availability is currently limited, and freight costs have risen. However, we expect prices to decrease within the next week as supply improves.

  • BLACKBERRIES - Prices are up as Mexican yields decline, with current quality remaining fair at best.

  • CHAYOTE - Prices increased this week as we transition from Costa Rican to Mexican product.

  • PERSIAN CUCUMBERS - Ontarioā€™s mini cukes are mid-rotation, keeping prices elevated for the next 4-6 weeks. This weekā€™s pricing is at its peak.

  • GREEN PAPAYA - Due to limited availability of Mexican and Guatemalan supplies, weā€™ve transitioned to USA product, which has resulted in a price increase.

  • PEACHES - Peach prices have increased due to tight market conditions, but we expect the pricing to remain stable moving forward.

  • GREEN FINGERLING HOT PEPPERS - Due to quality issues with the Dominican Republic product, we switched to USA product last week, which has led to a price increase.

  • BARTLETT PEARS - Supply remains tight, but relief is coming! Weā€™re transitioning to Chilean Bartletts next week, which will bring prices down.

šŸ“‰Price DropsšŸ“‰

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • CANTALOUPE - While markets remain tight, cantaloupe prices have decreased and are expected to stay steady.

  • GREEN & RED SEEDLESS GRAPES - Abundant availability of red and green seedless grapes is driving market prices down. Nowā€™s a great time to stock up!

  • LIMES - Prices are slightly dropping with improved supply this week, but donā€™t get too relaxedā€”cold weather could reduce supply and push prices back up over mid-February through April.

  • HABANEROS - Improved supply has led to a decrease in habanero prices.

  • MINI SWEET PEPPERS - Mexico Hot House prices have decreased thanks to a rise in availability across all pepper varieties.

  • SHISHITOS - much like habaneros, increased supply has driven a drop in shishito prices.

  • HOT HOUSE TOMATOES - Mexico Hot House prices have dropped as availability of all tomato varieties has increased.

  • GREEN FANCY ZUCCHINI - The transition to the new growing area has gone smoothly, with yields exceeding expectations for this time of year, contributing to the price decrease.

šŸš©Red FlagsšŸš©: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

  • Sliced Bananas Delay (code 4728)- Due to container delays last week, we experienced some supply gaps for sliced frozen bananas. However, we expect a steady supply moving forward.

  • Apple Cider (code 1829) - Higher-than-expected demand for apple cider last week led to a shortage. The forecast has been updated, and we anticipate steady supply moving forward.

  • Shiitake (code 2786) & King Oysters (2776) = Slow Growth - High demand, coupled with slower growth due to last weekā€™s cold weather, led to a shortage of shiitake and king oyster mushrooms. Weā€™re closely monitoring the situation as it develops.

  • Chanterelles (code 2764) - Weā€™re nearing the end of the season for Chanterelles and availability will be minimal. We will have Yellow Foot and Hedgehog going forward for wild mushrooms

  • Baby Zucchini (code 3543) - There was a delay in our shipment of baby zucchini last week, resulting in shorts.

  • Queso Cotija (code 6026) - A spike in last-minute demand led to a shortage of queso cotija. We are working to meet demand and expect more consistent availability moving forward.

  • Tuscan Kale (code 2590) - Our Tuscan (black) kale was used to support substitutions for our green kale last week, leading to less availability. Supply should be consistent moving forward.
