Market Recap: What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • ICEBURG LETTUCE (2657 & 2655) - Steady demand, lighter weights, weather- and disease-related quality issues, and a tight regional transition are all pushing prices higher.

  • CLUSTER TOMATOES (7382) - Supply remains limited as greenhouses continue to replant and work through production gaps.

  • GOLDEN PAPAYAS (2928) - Limited growth in Mexico is creating supply shortages and resulting in price increases.

  • RED & YELLOW PEPPERS (2010 & 3029) - Rising packaging and freight costs are driving a price increase this week.

  • HEIRLOOM TOMATOES (3423) - Supply remains limited with many greenhouses tied up in replanting cycles.

  • GINGER ROOTS (2538) - Fresh containers are hitting the docks and reactivating the ginger market, driving prices upward.

  • LIMES (2718) - Lime prices have spiked due to tight availability and quality concerns, with the market expected to stay elevated through August.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • THAI GREEN CHILI PEPPERS (3024) - Thai green chilies are now coming in local, boosting availability and easing the market.

  • RASPBERRIES (3227) - California raspberry prices eased this week as demand softened, bringing the market from last week’s highs back to steady.

  • JALAPENO PEPPERS (2994) - Jalapeños are in peak local season, with excellent supply from nearby fields.

🚩Supply Watch🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

Supply Gap:

  • Hiiro Tomatoes | Code 10840 — Nature Fresh anticipates a 2–3 week supply gap as they move through replanting.

  • Honeycrisp Apples | Code 1937 — We’re in an end-of-season gap, roughly four weeks away from new crop arrivals. Once harvest ramps up, markets should begin to ease.

Last Week’s Shortages:

  • Shiitake Mushrooms | Code 2786 — After strong demand and slower growth from the recent heat, supply has recovered and product is back in stock.

  • Basil | Code 2130 — Supply tightened from flight and customs delays, but basil is back in stock.

  • Bosc Pears | Code 3150 — Despite recent container delays, ongoing supply remains stable.

  • Strawberries | Code 3346 — Quality is spotty coming out of California. Plan for fair quality — mostly medium fruit with some light bruising and a shorter window on shelf life.

  • Ontario Blackberries | Code 4835 — Ontario blackberries ran short last week with limited availability.

  • Greek Yogurt Plain 5% | Code 6248 — Greek yogurt faced a production and delivery delay, now back in stock.

  • Red Watercress | Code 4479 — Weather issues forced prorated orders, but watercress supply should improve next week.

  • Barbet Lightwave | Code 10502 — A production and packaging hiccup held up Barbet Lightwave, but it should be back later this week.
