As we transition into the cozy embrace of soup season, we're here to make your culinary journey as smooth as possible! 🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap
Transition to U.S. and Mexico for Warm Vegetables - As of Monday, our local warm vegetable supply has ended, and we are begining to source the following items from the U.S. and Mexico.
Roma Tomatoes
New Source: Mexico
Potential Price Increase: 90%
Note: Due to recent hurricanes in Florida, their crops are delayed by approximately four weeks (ETA: November 15th). This has led to a nearly doubled price for Mexican Roma tomatoes due to sudden demand. We expect elevated pricing to continue for 4–6 weeks until Florida’s crops become available.
Jalapeno Peppers
New Source: Mexico
Potential Price Increase: 15%
Note: Initial selections from Mexico are constrained due to high demand and limited supply. A transition to sourcing from Georgia is anticipated within two weeks, which is expected to alleviate costs.
Eggplant
New Source: USA
Potential Price Increase: 35%
Note: The initial shipments from Georgia are anticipated to be accompanied by elevated prices. However, the arrival of supplementary crops from Mexico, projected by the end of November, may contribute to the stabilization of prices.
Zucchini (Green/Yellow)
New Source: Mexico
Potential Price Increase: 40%
Note: New crop picks from Mexico will start on Monday. In 4–6 weeks, other growing regions will contribute to supply, potentially driving prices down.
California Heat Spell - The intense heat wave hitting Salinas and King City is likely to impact the quality of Romaine lettuce from California. This could affect yields over the next couple of weeks as they prepare to transition to Yuma, AZ. For more insights on the heat wave, check out what the growers at Church Brothers Farms have to say!
Product Changes this week:
Update on Heartee Premium Mushroom Mix - we’re phasing out the Heartee Premium mix this week. We've found that most customers prefer ordering their favorite mushrooms individually rather than the mix, so here’s what we’ll continue to keep in stock by the case:
King Oyster Black 2 LB
Oyster Blue 2 LB
Oyster Yellow 2 LB
Pom Pom (Lion’s Mane) 2 LB
Chestnut 2 LB
