Welcome to this week’s Market Report—where the ramps are wild, the garlic’s green, and the countdown to Cinco is officially on.

We’ve got price shifts, new arrivals, and a few short-season gems you’ll want to lock in. Whether you're planning spring features, prepping for Mother's Day, firing up for Cinco de Mayo, or just here for your weekly cheat sheet—here’s what’s worth knowing right now:

📈 What’s Up?: Tighter supply, freight hikes, and shifting growing regions are pushing prices up on Brussels sprouts, Napa cabbage, mini sweet peppers, banana leaves, acorn squash, and large limes.

📉 What’s Down?: Thanks to improved harvests and growing seasons kicking in, prices are down on AAA white asparagus, Bosc pears, strawberries, baby eggplant, corn, long red chili peppers and red shepherd peppers, and Ontario hot house tomatoes (code 7381).

🌟 New Arrivals: Cookstown Greens organic green garlic (code 2527) has arrived this week along with more wild-foraged Ontario ramps (code 7428).

☀️ On the Horizon: Get ready—Welsh Bros local asparagus is almost here! The first harvests could land as early as May 5th in limited quantities, with fuller availability expected the week of May 12th.

Market Recap: What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

BRUSSELS SPROUTS - Brussels sprout supply is tightening as Mexico winds down and we transition between growing regions—expect elevated prices to continue for the time being.
NAPA CABBAGE - Supply out of Florida is tight—expect elevated prices to persist in the coming weeks.
MINI SWEET PEPPERS - Production from Ontario greenhouses has slowed, so we’ve temporarily shifted sourcing back to Mexico.
BANANA LEAVES - Banana leaf prices are up due to rising freight costs.
ACORN SQUASH - Crop yields out of Mexico are down this month, resulting in tighter supply.
LIMES - Small limes are in good supply, but larger sizes from Mexico’s Gulf region remain limited. Expect high prices for the next two weeks until availability improves.

These items have dropped in price this week:

ASPARAGUS WHITE AAA - Improved supply from Holland is driving down white asparagus prices.
BOSC PEARS - Bosc pear supply is rising as growing regions expand, with Argentina and South Africa actively competing for market share.
STRAWBERRIES - Strawberry supply is improving this week, causing prices to drop as California ramps up production.
BABY EGGPLANT - Baby eggplant prices are down as Ontario greenhouse production ramps up for the season.
CORN - Florida corn prices are dropping thanks to increased yields from this season’s crop.
LONG RED CHILI PEPPER & RED SHEPPARD PEPPER- Prices on long red chili peppers and red sheppard peppers are down as the Spanish season kicks off, boosting supply and driving the decrease.
HOT HOUSE TOMATOES (7381) - Ontario greenhouses are beginning to produce more tomatoes, boosting local supply and driving down prices as the season picks up.

Spring’s MVPs have landed: organic green garlic from Cookstown Greens and wild-foraged Ontario ramps.

Cookstown Green Garlic (Code 2527)

Tender, aromatic, and packed with fresh spring flavour, organic green garlic is the young, milder version of the garlic bulb we all know.

Use it anywhere you’d normally reach for garlic—think pestos, vinaigrettes, soups, compound butters, or simply grilled and served whole. It brings a bright, slightly grassy garlic punch that's perfect for lighter spring menus.

Locally Foraged Ramps (Code 7428)

Bold, fragrant, and only around for a short time, ramps are one of spring’s most prized ingredients. With a flavour that falls somewhere between garlic and sweet onion, they’re perfect for sautés, pestos, pickling, compound butters, and finishing spring dishes.

Grill them whole, fold them into pastas, or blitz them into sauces—either way, they’re a seasonal fav worth chasing.

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

Chives (2341 & 2342) - Chive shortage this week due to freight and customs delays around the Easter holiday.
Lime Juice (2582) - Well Juice’s lime juice supply was tight last week due to vendor production delays. Fully restocked now!
Greenhouses Juices (Deep Roots, Farma-C & Gatbsy) - A spike in sales led to a few shorts last week, but we've adjusted our orders to keep things on track moving forward!
Buttermilk 1% (6072) - We had a few shorts last week on 1% buttermilk due to a delay from the vendor/manufacturer. We’re restocked now!
Burratini 1.5kg Pail (6863) - We experienced a short on burratini last week due to transportation delays—but it's back in stock now.
Flat Runner Beans (7513) - Our previous load had some quality issues, but supply is expected to improve as the Spanish season ramps up.
Frozen Mangos (2740) - Frozen mango shipments are delayed due to vendor production delays.
Frozen Dragon Fruit (8471) - We’re experiencing a short 2-week gap on frozen dragon fruit due to delayed containers. More inventory is expected to arrive by May 5th.
Granola Chunky Supreme (8516) - Last week’s chunky granola shortage was due to a production delay combined with a spike in demand. Available now.
