Market Recap: What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • SEA ASPARAGUS (4650) - Increased freight costs are driving prices up on sea asparagus.

  • KUMATO TOMATO (3424) - Heat waves are hitting specialty greenhouse tomatoes hard — Kumato supply is tight and prices are up.

  • JUMBO YAMS (3476) - Overall supply remains tight — expect pricing to climb this week.

  • BASIL POTS 4” (5316) - Rising packaging and freight costs are driving a price increase this week.

  • ASPARAGUS (2553) - Increased demand and tightening supply are pushing prices up this week for asparagus.

  • BRUSSELS SPROUTS & ROMAINE (2225 & 2696) - Due to low yields and limited availability in growing regions, there is a temporary shortage and market increase on Brussels sprouts and lettuce.

  • CLUSTER TOMATOES & HEIRLOOMS (7382 & 3423) - Ongoing heat waves are impacting specialty greenhouse crops — expect some quality and supply challenges.

  • JERUSALEM ARTICHOKES (4740) - We’re in a crop transition — prices are up and should stay that way for another week.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • SEEDLESS WATERMELON (3455) - Increased availability — including local supply — is driving seedless watermelon prices down.

  • ROMANESCO (2219) - The local season has begun, helping to drive prices down on Romanesco.

  • GRAPE TOMATOES (3410 & 4643) - Local field grape tomato yields are improving, dropping market prices.

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

Supply Gap:

  • Golden Pineapple | Code 3040 — We’re in a supply gap — product is extremely limited and demand remains high across the market.

Last Week’s Shortages:

  • Baby Leeks | Code 3739 — Baby leeks were tight last week, but things are bouncing back — we’re expecting better availability this week.

  • Basil | Code 2130 — Customs held up a few flights, which delayed basil shipments — but we’re back in stock today.

  • Pompom & Chestnut Mushrooms | Code 5158 & 10273 — Ongoing heat is slowing growth on pompom and chestnut mushrooms, limiting available supply while demand remains strong. Expect continued tightness in the market.

  • Barbet Lightwave | Code 10502 — A production and packaging hiccup held up Barbet Lightwave, but it should be back later this week.

🌟 Meet The Bondi Family Foundation🌟

After nearly 50 years of serving chefs, restaurants, and communities across Ontario, we’re excited to introduce something close to our hearts: the Bondi Family Foundation — our newly established charitable arm.

Our mission is simple: to give back to the communities that have supported us, and to create a lasting legacy rooted in compassion, connection, and care.

This isn’t new territory for us — giving back has always been part of who we are. But now, we’re making it official…and we're just getting started.

This Tuesday, we’re proud to be hosting our first official event: the Bondi Family Foundation Charity Golf Tournament in support of Haven on the Queensway — an organization just a stone’s throw away from our warehouse doing vital work to provide food, shelter, and dignity to those in need in our community.
