  • Peppers (Habanero, Mini Sweet & Green Finger chili)

  • Avocados - The cost has increased in the last few weeks, but we should see that coming down by next week. The new crop is taking longer to ripen than anticipated

ONTARIO ALL STARS

Red Flags – Get the scoop on shortages

🌸🚩 Fresh Origins Flowers 🚩🌸

We extend our sincerest apologies to all those impacted by the recent shortages. The holiday on Monday resulted in delays in our shipment schedule. Subsequently, FedEx held our packages, leading to the damage of all the flowers. Under usual circumstances, we would promptly arrange for replacements. However, due to the July 4th holiday, the farm was unable to accommodate our request. We have resumed our regular ordering schedule this week and do not foresee any further delays.

All Wrapped Up!

These items are finished up for the season. Ask your rep for recommendations on substitutes.

  • Red Goose Berries - finished for the season

  • Fava Beans - wrapped up for the year it seems or close to be being finished.

  • Ontario Asparagus - finished for the year! Imported product starting

Short Ship Sparks Notes

  • Cremini # 1 subs this week! - Slow growth resulting in shortages. Anticipate shortages on #2 and seeing #1’s as subs this week

  • USA Berries - While the local berries are thriving, the USA berries are experiencing quality issues across various vendors due to the heatwave. Crops along the coast are doing better, but the acreage is very limited. We expect arrivals to improve by the end of this week as the weather looks promising going forward. This will affect strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries. Switch to local for high quality with only slightly elevated pricing.

  • Avocados -The latest batch of avocados is experiencing a slower ripening process. We're keeping a close eye on our stock to ensure we don't send out unripe or overripe fruit, but July presents a unique challenge. This month is notoriously difficult for avocados due to the transition to the new crop, which initially has lower oil content, causing them to ripen more slowly and sometimes unevenly.

  • Jicama - Issues with quality caused by unstable weather in Mexico. New product brought in this week!
