Market Recap: What's Up, What's Down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • LEEKS: Prices are way up this week due to cold weather and supply shortages. If you’re using these, consider planning ahead or subbing in another onion.

  • BOK CHOY: Frost in key growing regions is driving up prices on bok choy. If it’s a staple for you, heads up—it’s not as budget-friendly right now!

  • LIMES: Poor harvest yields in Mexico are sending lime prices climbing fast. Stock up now, or consider using sparingly in your recipes while these prices remain high.

  • ASPARAGUS: Tight supply from Mexico has asparagus prices spiking. If these are on your menu, prepare for higher costs this week or consider subbing for a more budget-friendly alternative.

📉Price Drops/Best Buys📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • TOMATOES: After a few weeks of increases, we’re finally starting to see a drop as Florida tomato yields normalize. Prices have come down to normal seasonal costs.

  • PUNTARELLE: Flash sale! Grab it while supplies last!

  • YELLOW/GREEN ZUCCHINI (BEST BUY!): Perfect time to stock up on both yellow and green zucchini! With supplies tight on asparagus, why not swap in zucchini for a delicious and budget-friendly alternative?

  • BUTTERNUT SQUASH (BEST BUY!): Butternut prices are looking sweet this week!

  • BLUEBERRIES (BEST BUY!): Blueberry prices are also on point this week! Whether for a dessert, salad, or garnish, now’s the time to grab them at a great price.

🥕 Local Pick of the Week🥕

If growing organic root veggies were an Olympic sport, Mike & Vicky Ffrench of Cookstown Greens would take home the gold in flavour! Their veggies are so good, even the carrots are blushing.

Mike & Vicky spent years identifying the crop varieties that they can grow the best and that produce outstanding flavour. We’ve currently got their:

🥕Nantes & Rainbow Carrots: Sweet, crisp and vibrant - perfect for raw crudos, roasted sides or silky purees. Nantes (code 4499) and rainbows (code 4502) are great local subs for current shortages on baby bunched carrots!

🌱Red & Mixed Beets: Earthy, rich and sweet - ideal for roasting, pickling, or shaving them raw. Their red (code 4494) and mixed (code 9019) are great local subs for current shortages on baby bunched beets if you like smaller beets.

🌻 Sunchokes: Nutty, earthy, sweet, and naturally creamy - these versatile seasonal tubers (code 4534) are a must-have in your kitchen arsenal.

Don’t miss out on these peak season root veggies from Cookstown—your taste buds will thank you, and your other veggies might get a little jealous!

Weekly Pantry Pick!

I’m officially in my year of Vermouth Spritz and Martinis. But if one of these olives doesn’t make its way to my table in that cute coupe, I’m seriously disappointed. Don’t be that guy in 2025.
