Market Recap : What’s up, what’s down

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • ROLLED TOMATO (code 4675) - We continue to experience the effects of the hurricane, with supplies remaining limited for the next few weeks.

  • CAULIFLOWER & ICEBERG LETTUCE - As we approach the transition season, the supply in California is starting to decrease. Operations are expected to commence in Yuma by the second week of November, with the anticipation of improved pricing approximately two to three weeks thereafter.

  • RASPBERRIES & BLACKBERRIES- We're currently experiencing a limited supply as we move our growing operations from Watsonville to Oxnard and Mexico.

  • KALE BLACK AND RED - The Ontario supply is winding down, and we will be transitioning to Texas/Mexico.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • SPINACH BUNCHES - Improved availability of supplies from California is contributing to a reduction in prices.

  • CANTALOUPE - California's season has come to an end, and now we're moving on to Arizona and Mexico for fruit with more competitive prices.

  • CUCUMBERS - Increased production at Ontario greenhouses means more availability!

🚩Red Flags🚩: Last Week's Supply & Quality Recap

  • Castelveltrano pitted olives & Frankies Olive Oil- The pickup from the USA has been postponed. The estimated time of arrival is TODAY, October 29, subject to any transportation or border delays.

  • Shogun Maitake - Subs on Monday and Tuesday this week with a different brand. But no worries, we've got a new shipment coming in tonight, so we'll be all set and ready to go moving forward!

  • Gunns Hill Brie - Restocking on Thursday, back and ready for ordering for Friday delvieries.

  • Endive – We've experienced some shortages over the past week due to production and shipment delays. A new shipment is set to arrive today! We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

  • Caullini - The availability of the product remains limited at the field level. We anticipate disruptions in supply over the coming weeks.

  • Fresh Origins Flowers and Sprouts - Significant delays have been encountered in customs processing, resulting in split deliveries that adversely impact the quality of goods upon arrival.

  • California Heat Spell - The heat wave that's been affecting Salinas and King City since last week is still going strong, and it's taking a toll on crops like broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, and leafy greens. These veggies are showing signs of heat stress, which might impact their quality and shelf life. As growers get ready to shift operations to Yuma, AZ, this could influence yields in the coming weeks.

Product Changes this week:

  • Belgioioso Burrata & Stracciatella Update - Belgioioso Burrata is out of stock until the new year due to federal dairy quotas, which are now exhausted.

    • Starting last week Bella Casara Burratini 125g (CODE 06863) will be our substitute.

    • This also affects BelGioioso Stracciatella. We’ll be replacing it with Bella Casara Stracciatella 6/400g (CODE 07819) until the end of 2024 effective immediately.

  • Update on Heartee Premium Mushroom Mix - we’re phasing out the Heartee Premium mix this week. We've found that most customers prefer ordering their favorite mushrooms individually rather than the mix, so here’s what we’ll continue to keep in stock by the case:

    • King Oyster Black 2 LB

    • Oyster Blue 2 LB

    • Oyster Yellow 2 LB

    • Pom Pom (Lion’s Mane) 2 LB

    • Chestnut 2 LB
