Welcome to this week’s Market Report! Summer’s knocking louder every day, and fresh flavours are bursting through the door. Sweet local peas are popping, Cookstown Greens’ salad mixes are looking extra lush, and we’ve got zucchini and beans on deck, ready to make their debut in the next few weeks.

📈 What’s Up? Chinese peeled garlic, corn, yellow zucchini, kiwi, and Mexican grown strawberries are all creeping up this week.

📉 What’s Down? Prices are easing on Shanghai bok choy and kale as the local season kicks in. Limes are coming down in price, too, thanks to better availability.

🌟 New Arrivals: First harvest of local English peas, Cookstown Greens organic field-grown Hot ’n Spicy mix and Baby Arugula, plus wild-foraged BC spruce tips!

🟥 Red Flags: A customs delay resulted in some shorts on Fresh Origins edible flowers last week, but they’re back in stock now.

🪴 Baby Bunched Beets are Back: After a brief gap in availability due to some quality issues in the growing region, our red, gold and striped baby bunched beets are back in stock and looking great.

📈Price Increases📈

These items are experiencing a price surge this week:

  • CHINESE PEELED GARLIC (2531) - Chinese new-crop containers are backed up, supply is tight, and prices are climbing. Count on pricing to remained elevated through June.

  • CORN 48CT (2374) - Florida’s season is finished—product now comes out of Georgia. Supply is steady, but prices have ticked up.

  • STRAWBERRIES (MEXICO) (3346) - Mexico’s flush is over—prices have risen, but supply is stable.

  • YELLOW ZUCCHINI (3551) - Mexico’s season is wrapped. We will be rolling into local supply over the next few weeks. Early volumes are light, so expect the usual kick-off premium until yields build.

📉Price Drops📉

These items have dropped in price this week:

  • SHANGHAI BOK CHOY (2210) - Local harvest has kicked off, bringing prices down.  

  • LIMES (2718 & 2720) - Lime supply has improved across the board, but pricing on large sizes remain high.

  • GREEN KALE & TUSCAN BLACK KALE (2597) - Ontario kale season kicks off this week bringing prices down on both green and Tuscan black kale.

More warm weather favs are hitting our warehouse this week and we are HERE for it.

  • English Peas | Code 3659 - First-of-season local sweet English peas! We’ve sampled the goods, and trust us, they’re killer. Expect availability to ramp up over the next few weeks!

  • Spruce Tips | Code 3313 - Soft, neon-green buds with a citrus-pine zing. Blitz them into salt, churn into compound butter, steep for syrup, or sprinkle over cured fish, desserts, and gin cocktails for an instant evergreen pop. Limited availability!

  • Cookstown Hot n’ Spicy Salad Mix (Organic) | Code 10723 - This organic blend of Asian greens, lettuces, and tot soi packs a mustardy punch. Serve raw in salads or wraps, or flash-sauté into stir-fries and curries.

  • Cookstown Baby Arugula (Organic) | Code 10722 - Beautifully peppery and slightly sweeter than your typical arugula. Toss it raw into salads, sandwiches, or wraps, or drizzle with vinaigrette and scatter over soups, stews, roasted chicken, or fish.

  • Italian Castelfranco | Code 4880 — Castelfranco’s Italian run has come to a close—we will be moving into US product.

  • White AAA Asparagus | Code 4699 — White asparagus is on its last call. We’re expecting one last shipment to arrive from the Netherlands on the 18th and then it is done for the season.

  • Welsh Bros Asparagus | Code 8220 — Just putting it on your radar that we’re in the home stretch here as well (last year, we had our last pick hit the warehouse on June 24th).

We’re into local radish season and these Quebec-grown beauties arrived crisp and lively—Easter Eggs flashing pastel purples, pinks, and whites; Breakfast radishes skinny, sweet-hot, and perfectly bunched.

Why chefs are reaching for them:

  • Plate pop: Instant colour contrast for crudos, tartines, and composed salads.
